Summer Styles

FT. Cropped Denim Jacket

Throughout the summer, it’s always a hassle to finesse a variety of looks utilizing one unique piece of clothing. Between the sun and my heart beating for fashion, fashion had to be the winner. There are multiple ways we can create a clean and fresh summer look without having to constantly gasp for air. If you’re a person who enjoys layers, then sometimes a white T-Shirt paired with blue denim jeans isn’t enough to make you feel whole or should I say like “that girl.” Every so often, we need that extra layer to bring the outfit together.

For those who may not know, layered clothing is a fashion technique performed by wearing multiple garments on top of each other. Although it’s one of the most popular ways to create a look, this technique has often been used the wrong way.

What do the kids say nowadays? “It’s not giving what it’s supposed to give.”  Yea, let’s avoid that.

One of the easiest ways to practice putting on layers is by adding a cropped denim jacket to any summer look you desire. It’s one of the most versatile pieces in most wardrobes because of how easily it can be dressed up or down. Without a doubt, you will look more edgy.  To be clear, it’s one of the laziest ways to stand out and one of the most convenient ways to avoid catching a heat stroke in style, especially if you live in places like Miami, Houston, California, etc.

Here are a few schemes of how you can successfully execute styling your cropped denim jacket:

SCHEME 1

As a woman, a bodycon dress always brings out our feminine energy. The materials used to design these dresses are often created from a stretchy material, such as spandex, with the intention for it to hug the body and accentuate the curves. When wearing these particular dresses it’s important to make sure that you are purchasing the dress at the size you feel the most comfortable in. There’s no need to squeeze into a size lower when the dress was already created to hug your body type. Paying attention to those small details avoids you from looking bloated, raunchy, and unflattering.

During the summer, I had to take advantage of wearing lively colors before fall came around. In the photo above, I’m wearing a bodycon dress with two different shades of blue, paired with a petite blue bag, white platforms, and of course, a cropped denim jacket. Styling your bodycon dress with a cropped denim jacket during the summer is recommended, and don’t forget to have fun with the colors.

SCHEME 2

If you’re that girl who prefers to feel feminine, pure, and wholesome, then tapping into flowy picnic dresses isn’t a style you should miss out on. You no longer have to constantly worry about whether or not your stomach looks bloated, or if your butt looks big enough. This is your moment to just breathe, feel comfortable, yet stylish. Without doubt, styling this dress with a cropped denim jacket and a pair of heels will bring out your “It Girl” energy.

SCHEME 3

When it comes to summer styles, it’s all about playing with lively colors, color blocking, and having fun with graphics and patterns. Learning how to color block is beneficial when aiming to showcase raw and edgy looks. Color blocking is defined as “the exploration of taking colors that are opposites on the color wheel and pairing them together to make interesting and complementary color combinations.” Many influencers like Teyana Taylor, De’arra Taylor, and Dess Dior have a strong influence in executing these styles phenomenally.

In this look, I’m wearing a yellow Betty Boop graphic tee, paired with lavender shorts, and green accessories to compliment the outfit. The color green was picked out from the graphic shirt and the color lavender can be found in the same order of the color spectrum.

(Hint: Normalize utilizing the color wheel when styling colorful outfits)

After creating the bottom layer, feel free to add on your cropped denim jacket because it will always elevate the look. This is the look where streetwear meets class.

SCHEME 4

This look was inspired by the girls who enjoy supporting their athletic boyfriends on the sideline or perhaps are athletic themselves. She enjoys looking sporty, fit, simple, yet stylish. In this look, I have on an auburn tank top, paired with nude shorts, high ankle graphic socks, Steve Madden nude sneakers, a graphic nude and burgundy hat, and finally a cropped denim jacket. This is the everyday look that can be worn just about anywhere; lunch, Publix, the mall, or even a sports game. If you’ve been searching for methods on how to be stylish, yet invisible then try recreating this look. Focus on neutral or solid color clothings and small graphic prints. Sometimes, It’s not always in everyone’s best interest to stand out with colors, patterns, fonts, or graphics.

“The girls who get it, get it & the girls who don’t —- DON’T”

SCHEME 5

Ladies! While we still have a month left of summer, take this opportunity to channel your inner boho chic vibes. Normalize wearing long and flowy dresses because they aren’t just for hippies anymore. There’s a variety of colors, prints, and designs to choose from, therefore finding a particular one that matches your identity and personal style will be a breeze.

Simply add on that jean jacket, pick the color that stands out the least, keep that color in mind to pick out your accessories, add on some heels or flats if you prefer, and voila, enjoy your outfit. Cheers to being and feeling feminine.
